Basketball

Feb. 7th:

Wow! What a great day of Special Olympics basketball. Thank you so much for all of you who were able to come out and help. I think we had 30 volunteers from LU at the game. We received a lot of positive comments from the Special Olympians and their parents. You all helped to make the day very special for them.

We had some very action packed full-court games. The Lynchburg Special Olympics team swept the LU student team in three straight games: 64-61, 57-49, and 53-50. If you missed the end of the final game you missed a lot. LU tied the game at 61 with about 5 seconds on the clock, Lynchburg SO inbounded the ball and Special Olympian, Calvin, launched a heave from beyond half-court for a game winning 3-pointer.

We also had some great half-court action.  On court one Lynchburg and Campbell County each get one win.  In the first game Lynchburg won, 20-16 and Campbell County won the second game 20-14.  On court two Lynchburg swept an LU team 36-18 and 20-8.

Winter Champs

We had our winter champs on January 9-10.  Our athletes and coaches had a great time at winter champs!  Here are the results:

Kilia Young: 2nd Beam, 2nd Vault, 2nd Floor, 2nd Bar

2-Man Bowling

Darnell Whitley & Greg Smith: 2nd place Division 18

John “JC” Christian & William Douglas: 2nd place Division 19

Note: JC had the high score for Lynchburg, with a one-game score of 163!
